ABOUT US

The Lakeshore Regional Police Service is responsible for police service on the five First Nations - Kapawe'no First Nation, Sucker Creek First Nation, Driftpile Cree Nation, Swan River First Nation, and Sawridge First Nation. We work closely with these communities to prevent and solve crime, and to promote safety and protect their communities. We have full police officer authority as granted under the Alberta Police Act. Our members consist of a Chief of Police, two Inspectors, two Sergeants, ten Constable positions, and seven civilian employees. The Detachment is located off Hwy #2 on the Driftpile Cree Nation in northern Alberta.

GUARD SERVICES JOB SUMMARY

Contract, casual, call-in work. Monitor and safeguard persons in custody in the short-term holding facility. Ensure persons in custody are safe and secure and their dignity is maintained. Ensure the short-term holding facility is secure and operational readiness in maintained.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the admittance and release of persons in custody in the presence of police officers or Alberta Sheriffs - Court Security and Prisoner Transport Services; checks and locks up personal property
  • Conducts frequent checks and monitors persons in custody in the short-term holding facility
  • Performs a cell search before and after persons in custody use to ensure no damage or vandalism has occurred and reports to Sergeant-Shift Supervisor on duty if anything detected
  • Maintains detailed records of persons in custody including meals served, medications dispensed and cellblock activity
  • Heats previously prepared meals, serves meals to persons in custody, and ensures that the inventory of meals is maintained as required
  • Performs basic janitorial duties and general office procedures (e.g. cleaning cells)
  • Ensures cleanliness of the entire short-term holding facility (e.g. arranges for cleaning of blankets and towels, orders short-term holding facility supplies)
  • Completes reports and other related documents in a timely manner
  • May be required to give evidence in court
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with LRPS policies and procedures
  • Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions
  • Attends training courses, as required
  • Other duties, as requested

LOCATION: Lakeshore Regional Police Service Detachment, Driftpile, Alberta
