ABOUT US
The Lakeshore Regional Police Service is responsible for police service on the five First Nations – Kapawe’no First Nation, Sucker Creek First Nation, Driftpile Cree Nation, Swan River First Nation, and Sawridge First Nation in northern Alberta. We work closely with these communities to prevent and solve crime, and to promote safety and protect their communities. We have full police officer authority as granted under the Alberta Police Act. Our members consist of a Chief of Police, two Inspectors, three Sergeants, twelve Constable positions, and seven civilian employees.
JOB SUMMARY
Serve as shift supervisor and supervise Constable-Investigators and shift activities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides leadership, management, and supervision of assigned Constable-Investigators
- Reviews all operational files to provide written operational direction and guidance to Constable-Investigators
- Investigates and gathers evidence at crime scenes (Constable-Investigator duties)
- Supervises primary response to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
- Prevents and deters crime
- Maintains peace and order in the community
- Apprehends offenders
- Utilizes investigative expertise and professional case management to maximize the successful prosecution of offenders
- Liaise with provincial and federal Crown regarding ongoing investigations
- Reviews and forwards all court packages to Crown
- Develops and maintains smooth, cooperative working relationships with all co-workers
- Conducts and participates in meetings
- Solves problems through community consultation and partnerships
- Other duties as requested
QUALIFICATIONS
- Canadian citizen or lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence
- Related education, training, and experience
- Maintain a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Knowledge and appreciation of the Cree people and Indigenous people across Canada
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of federal, provincial, and participating communities’ by-laws as well as authorities of arrest, and search and seizure
- Knowledge of the participating communities’ geography and crime patterns and trends
- Knowledge of available agencies to render needed assistance
- Ability to use police firearms, baton, OC spray, taser, radio, and other selected job-specific hardware effectively
- Excellent analytical and conflict-resolution skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Organize work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines with a minimum of direction
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- 6-months probationary period for current employees or 18-months probationary period for new employees
- Must undergo a successful police records check
- Sign and abide by an Oath of Allegiance and Office
